In honour of the new Alan Partridge stuff coming out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucrpgmJxx0E), here’s an old song. What’s the connection? Well, I took a line from ‘I’m Alan Partridge’ and fitted it into one of the soppiest, most stomach churning love songs which I wrote for someone. We broke up. Perhaps it was the terrible, out of tune lap steel.
Enjoy. If you like it I might dig up more from the archives. Naïve teenage ‘Why doesn’t everybody love each other?’ song? You know you want it.

Another acoustic one. This is called Stars. It has four verses and no choruses. Here are the lyrics:
I thought you had eyes that were more like stars
I thought you had eyes that were more like stars
I saw you with a child in your arms
I saw you with a child in your arms
I thought he had eyes that were more like mine
I thought he had eyes that were more like mine
I thought you had a fire to keep us warm
I thought you had a fire to keep us warm
I’ve been gone so long I can barely stand
I’ve been gone so long I can barely stand
I thought it was a nail that was in your hand
I thought it was a nail that was in your hand
We built this house with our own two souls
We built this house with our own two souls
But no-one lives here now and the hearth grows cold
But no-one lives here now and the hearth grows cold
I thought you had eyes that were made of snow
I thought you had eyes that were made of snow
But now spring is here they look more like gold
But now spring is here they look more like gold
There’s fire in the air and I thought you’d know
There’s fire in the air and I thought you’d know
That I would mend the house when the winter’s gone
That I would mend the house when the winter’s gone
I thought I saw the stars that were in your eyes
I thought I saw the stars that were in your eyes
I thought I saw trees and birds disguised
I thought I saw trees and birds disguised
We built this house with our own two souls
We built this house with our own two souls
And I wouldn’t trade it for solid gold
And I wouldn’t trade it for solid gold

This is called ‘Minstrels’, my working on loops from the Outside Context track, ‘Whiskey and Chocolate Money’. I tried to make something hypnotic and repetitive, and I think I succeeded.

Warning: this is acoustic.
Most of the stuff on this blog is all electro-house-repetition freakouts, so I thought I’d go off on a tangent and put up a new folk song what I done.
It’s called ‘Silent Partner’.
Crap Colas and Not-so Crap Colas
1. Tesco Cola
Tesco Cola is definitely Crap. It’s very fizzy, which at first is quite nice, but after the fizziness comes a bland, dull, sugary, cloying mess which sticks not only to your teeth but to the roof of your mouth. The bottle I had was cheap, but this is also reflected in the quality.
2. Spar Cola
This is actually very good. It’s akin to the Virgin Cola which used to be everywhere but disappeared a few years ago. It doesn’t have as much ‘body’ as the Virgin, but that can be expected from an own brand. I bought mine from a service station so I paid out of my arse for it. Might be cheaper in Spar stores.
3. Co-op Cola
Co-op have gained a reputation as a retailer of quite good food, and I enjoy most things I consume from them. The less said about the cola, the better. It’s barely an imitation of other own brand colas, let alone Coke. It’s as if someone took Tesco Cola and diluted it with water and glucose. Cheap enough though, but only if you’re desperate.
4. Asda Cola
My favourite Crap Cola. It’s got enough flavour, sweetness and fizziness to satisfy, but it’s also different enough to Coke to not be a pale imitation. Make sure to buy the one with the red label. The 17p one is REALLY crap.
More to come…

A remix of Peter Broderick’s quite marvellous ‘And It’s Alright’. Check it out if you haven’t already.

A new(ish) one. Remix(ish) of an earlier track, but much better because I used some bass donks.
Everyone knows the donk is the best way to improve things.

Here it is. Finally. It’s been far too long in the making for someone to do an electronic version of Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’ (described in Flight of The Conchords’ Dave as something to get girls hot), and I’ve had to step up to the plate and do it. I imagine that one day in the future I’ll look back on this as a bad idea, but at the moment it sounds great.

A new-ish one, the last of 2009. Inspired by Clint Mansell’s soundtrack for Moon, but obviously not as good. I like the way that it almost seems to change rhythm in various places - an upside to hypnotic arpeggiators!
